Seth Weintraub of 9to5Mac received and posted the above photos of a “likely fake” Rose Gold iPhone 6s, which features a dual-lens camera. Prior rumors have claimed that iPhone 6s will feature a dual-lens camera with optical zoom capabilities. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities has said that the next iPhone will feature a 12MP camera and Rose Gold color option, to match the Rose Gold Apple Watch Edition.
Apple acquired LinX Imaging this year, which specializes in creating “miniature multi-aperture cameras for mobile devices.” Interestingly enough, a close look at the leaked images will reveal that the two sensors appear to have two different apertures. This arrangement could be something like a hybrid between two products that LinX Imaging had already released prior to the acquisition. Images of those products can be seen in the link at the beginning of this paragraph.
It’s very possible that these photos could be works of Photoshop, and the appearance of the dual-lens system makes me hope that they are. The color of the iPhone in question looks a little harsh as well. The plastic antenna strips are somewhat confining as far as component arrangement goes, forcing everything into a line of variously sized circles. The protruding camera lens is already a compromise, and I would hope that Apple would work on a more elegant solution for this arrangement.
Sticking with the same physical hardware layout, I would much rather see something like the following photo.
Although some discrepancies leave questions about the authenticity of the photos, it’s possible that this could be an early prototyping device meant for testing the hardware and new color. What are your thoughts on these photos? Would you be okay with the appearance of this dual-lens system? Let us know in the comments.
